Renal angiography and embolization indications currently include the treatment of angiomyolipoma (AML), pre-operative tumor and/or tumor thrombus embolization, the control of post-operative renal hemorrhage, pre-transplant embolization of native kidneys or failed allographs, patients with end-stage renal disease and uncontrolled hypertension, and the treatment of arterio-venous malformations/fistulas.
Renal angiography can be performed through a pinhole in the wrist or groin to access the artery. Using specialized catheters, we are able to go through the arteries in the body to get to the kidney. Once there we are able to perform specialized treatments using coils, liquid embolics, and or particles. The patients go home the say day without the need for hospitalization. These procedures are truly minimally invasive.
